*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* FAQ POLICY: ----------- With 2003 in as of this writing, I have created a new policy for my FAQs. Please follow this policy. E-MAIL POLICY: I no longer answer e-mails about anything found in these guides. My FAQs comprehensively answer the questions, and any e-mail about content found IN the guides is not tolerated. Please read this and make sure what you're e-mailing is within bounds of answering. If I haven't answered a question of yours, then you overstepped the boundaries. HOSTING POLICY: These following websites can host all of my guides in one form of another. NO MORE WEBSITES MAY HOST MY GUIDES UNLESS THEY HAVE ANY FORM OF COMPENSATION. It's not very fair to have one website offer me something, and another one not offer me anything. It's not a greed factor, or anything personal, it's just that some websites do much better than others to refavor me for my own hard work, and rewarded they shall be. www.gamefaqs.com faqs.ign.com www.neoseeker.com www.new-blood.com www.computerunderground.com cubed.biohazardextreme.com www.a2zcheats.com www.cheats.de www.psxcodez.com www.meristation.net (I might have missed one or two, but they likely have less visitors). COPYRIGHT POLICY: All my FAQs have copyrights starting 2002. Any copyrights before that are ineffective as of January 1, 2003. You probably don't care, so don't violate the copyright and you'll be fine. Sorry to waste your time reading this, but it has to be said in the form of the new year. ---CVXFREAK FireEmblemPride@hotmail.com *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* ################# ### ### ################################### # | | # # | (NINTENDO) | # # |_P | # # ... \O | # #. . |W | # # ..._ /E .......... | # # | R . . | # # | . SETTING THE TIME, DATE AND MEMORY CARD FORMAT ======================================================================== When you first buy your GameCube, you will need to set the time and date. The GameCube's dashboard is simple to use and manage. Set up the time by going to its option on the cube. Click on your time and date and press the confirm button, on the screen. The date will be set. Games that utilize dates (for example, a game like Madden 2002, or Animal Crossing) will follow those dates. If you are on the correct date, and its Thanksgiving, the announcers will mention that it is Thanksgiving! It happened to on Thanksgiving 2001! To set up the Memory Card 59/251, simply save an American or Japanese game to it! Once a Japanese game save is on there, only Japanese games can be saved from now on. Same with American games. If you remove all saves from the memory card, you can save an American game again. NOTE: If you start up an American game with Japanese data, the system will ask you to reformat the memory card. Be careful, especially when you upload JPN games with American memory cards, as it will ask you to reformat in Kanji, risking your data. ======================================================================== 1. WHAT IS THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE? ======================================================================== After the introduction of the Nintendo GameCube in SpaceWorld 2000, the Nintendo GameCube has arrived in North America. One of the most technologically advanced game systems of all time, the Nintendo GameCube boasts wonderful, fluid 3D graphics with clear imagery. It is a small cube, available in several colors. With unique mini discs capable of that hold up to 1.5 GB of data, and a very efficient 485 MHz IBM PC Gekko processor, the Nintendo GameCube is a powerful little cube. Not to mention that it is cheap at only $149.99 a console! Nintendo, makers of the famous Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo 64, is behind the project once again, with help from IBM and Panasonic, to deliver the gamers with the best form of video game entertainment gamers will have ever seen. The launch of the Nintendo GameCube has passed. Are you skeptical of the new Nintendo? How does it stack up to the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Microsoft XBOX? Is it worth it? Well, read on to find out. ======================================================================== 2. COMPARED TO PLAYSTATION 2 ======================================================================== SPEED ----- One thing you'll notice between the 2 systems is that the Nintendo GameCube has faster loading times than the Sony PlayStation 2. Games such as Madden 2002 load faster on the GameCube than their PS2 counterparts. Super Mario Sunshine is the perfect example of short loading times. MEMORY ------ The PlayStation 2 beats out the GameCube in terms of Memory Card issues. The GameCube's small 59/251 blocks simply can't beat 8MB of Memory Card data. One GameCube Memory Card can't save a season or game to All-Star Baseball 2003. It's a serious flaw, and hopefully Nintendo will release a 1000 block memory card. GRAPHICS -------- Graphics-wise, the PS2 cannot quite match the GameCube on paper (and on the TV). The GameCube versions of games (like Madden 2003, or 007: Agent Under Fire) look cleaner and more fluid on the Nintendo GameCube than on the PS2 (not always the case, as evidenced by the poor GameCube version of EA's Need for Speed 2: Hot Pursuit). The PS2 is still a great graphical console; just not the best (although very, very good; play Metal Gear Solid 2, or Final Fantasy X). Overall, though, they're both capable of similar looking games. The developers will have to work on both consoles. GAMES ----- The PS2 focuses mostly on mature gamers rather than younger gamers. PS2 is populated with games like Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (MGS2: Substance), Grand Theft Auto 3, Mafia and Final Fantasy X, while Nintendo has Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid and Mario franchises. Nintendo has their boost with Resident Evil, exclusively, which, along with Metroid, and Eternal Darkness, can help silence the "kiddy" comments. POWER ----- Clearly the GameCube wins. Games like Star Wars: Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2 will need to be toned down to be possible on the PS2 (or, as always, the developer will have to find ways around the PS2's inferior hardware). The GameCube may have a lower polygon count compared to PS2, but that's because PS2's numbers are lying. It's numbers are based on polygons themselves (raw polygons). If the PS2 processed 66 Million polygons, you'd be looking at games similar to the polygon monsters in Super Smash Bros. For N64. The PS2's numbers reduce to 6-12 Million after applying color, textures, animations, movement, lighting, etc. We all need to remember that each system works differently. For example, the PlayStation 2 may not rely on RAM as much as another console may, but its "pipeline" is huge (according to some folks). The XBOX's processor may not be as "powerful" or as "fast" as the PlayStation 2 or the GameCube's, but it has an extremely efficient graphics processor. The GameCube may not support nearly as many polygons as the XBOX, but it has better texturing capabilities. In the end, it depends on the developer. A developer from Squaresoft can utilize the PlayStation 2 with Final Fantasy X, but a developer can crap on the more powerful XBOX with worse looking titles like *AHEM* Kabuki Warriors. In the true end, it is down to the developers and what they do with the hardware. PLAYSTATION 2 HARDWARE SPECIFICATIONS ------------------------------------- To compare the PlayStation 2 to the GameCube, here are the technical specifications, straight from Sony! CPU 128-bit Playstation 2 CPU System Clock Frequency 294.912 MHz Cache Memory Instruction: 16KB, Data: 8KB + 16KB (ScrP) Main Memory Direct Rambus (Direct RDRAM) Memory Size 32MB Memory Bus Bandwidth 3.2GB per Second Co-processor FPU (Floating Point Unit) Floating Point Multiply Accumulator x 1, Floating Point Divider x 1 Vector Units VU0 and VU1 Floating Point Multiply Accumulator x 9, Floating Point Divider x 3 Floating Point Performance 6.2 GFLOPS 3D CG Geometric Transformation 66 Million Polygons per second Compressed Image Decoder MPEG2 Graphics Graphics Synthesizer(tm) Clock Frequency 147.456MHz Embedded DRAM 4MB DRAM Bus bandwidth 48GB per Second DRAM Bus width 2560 Bits Pixel Configuration RGB:Alpha:Z Buffer (24:8:32) Polygon Drawing Rate 75 Million Polygons per Second Screen Resolution Variable from 256 x 224 to 1280 x 1024 Sound "SPU2+CPU" Number of Voices ADPCM: 48ch on SPU2 plus definable, software programmable voices Sound Memory 2MB Output Frequency Variable up to 48 KHz (DAT quality) IOP I/O Processor CPU Core PlayStation (current) CPU Clock Frequency 33.8688MHz or 36.864MHz (Selectable) IOP Memory 2MB Sub Bus 32-bit Interface Types IEEE1394 i.Linka , Universal Serial Bus (USB) x 2 Controller Port x 2, Memory Card x 2 Disc Device CD-ROM and DVD-ROM Device Speed CD-ROM 24 times speed DVD-ROM 4 times speed ======================================================================== 4. COMPARED TO MICROSOFT XBOX ======================================================================== SPEED ----- Despite having a Hard Drive to help out, I will have to change this section. Surveying many GameCube and XBOX games, the GameCube will have to win this category. There's just no game that loads quicker than Super Monkey Ball, or Luigi's Mansion, as well as the recently released Super Mario Sunshine. There are occasional XBOX games that load faster, such as the XBOX version of Turok Evolution. MEMORY ------ The XBOX smokes the GameCube. An 8 GB hard drive smokes 59/251 blocks of memory. True, the GameCube will get an SD card someday from Panasonic, but still, an 8GB Hard Drive can only be beaten by a couple thousand Memory Cards, or a 9GB Hard Drive (not to mention the hard drive is free with the XBOX). GRAPHICS -------- As more and more GameCube games get shown, it is clear that the GameCube has some stones to throw on the XBOX. The first obvious example was Rogue Leader, the second being Resident Evil. As games like Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet, Resident Evil Zero, Eternal Darkness and (WHOA!) Metroid Prime are shown, it is clear that Microsoft's touts for XBOX's graphical power over the other consoles are clearly exaggerated. That doesn't necessarily mean the XBOX isn't as powerful; leave that to the POWER section. It just means that some games just look better through the techniques they use (such as bump mapping, pre-rendering, anti-aliasing, etc.), as well as their development teams. Some GameCube versions of games also look better than their XBOX counterparts, like Dark Summit, or Agent Under Fire. GAMES ----- The XBOX focuses mostly on mature gamers rather than kids' games. XBOX is populated with games like Halo, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Dead or Alive 3, while Nintendo has Pokemon, Zelda and Mario franchises. Nintendo has their boost with Resident Evil, exclusively. The XBOX also has Dino Crisis 3 for survival horror fans, as well as Genma Onimusha and Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, games GameCube won't get. POWER ----- As people come and discuss, power is becoming a moot point between the GameCube and XBOX. Some people will tout how the GameCube can match what the XBOX can with different techniques to do it. Others will tout how the XBOX is simply "too powerful" for the GameCube (and the PlayStation 2) to handle. But again, a GameCube fan only needs to flash a demo of Metroid Prime and Rogue Leader, while XBOX fans show off a demo of Project Ego and Dead or Alive 3. What people have said is that whatever the GameCube pushes out, the XBOX can do, and vice-versa, and there are games that show that. But in the end, I need to make this point: We all need to remember that each system works differently. For example, the PlayStation 2 may not rely on RAM as much as another console may, but its "pipeline" is huge (according to some folks). The XBOX's processor may not be as "powerful" (loose term, whatever) as the PlayStation 2 or the Game Cube's, but it has an extremely efficient graphics processor. XBOX HARDWARE SPECIFICATIONS ---------------------------- Here are the XBOX specs, straight from Microsoft! GAMECUBE'S PERIPHERALS ======================================================================== GameCube will have its own peripherals for expanding its possibilities! These are all basically available now, or will be available by 2003. GAMECUBE CONTROLLER ------------------- Arguably the most comfortable controller on the market, the GameCube controller is made to fit in your hands and have easily recognized buttons. With the middle size, it fits all types of different hands shapes. It also has a built in rumble feature, so no more rumble pack! The only downfall is the short cord. WAVEBIRD WIRELESS CONTROLLER ---------------------------- The GameCube controller with a twist- it is wireless! Those short cords on the normal controller can't get you down with the Wave Bird! Up to (and sometimes exceeding) 30 ft. of clear reception from the controller to the console itself, even through walls and your little cousin. Now lay in bed, and relax! As of right now, it is available in gray. It has been released in Japan and the US. It is priced at $34.99 USD. MEMORY CARD 59 (DIGI CARD) -------------------------- 4mb of memory storage is pretty small. But the cheap price compensates, at $14.99. This stores game saves portably, so you can bring your Madden 2002 teams over to your friend's house to play! Buy 2, because they only store 59 blocks of memory. It is a little white card that slots into those little slots underneath the controller ports. MEMORY CARD 251 --------------- These are the same size as the Memory Card 59, except they're colored black and hold 251 blocks of memory. These will be available in June, 2002, and on July 19, 2002, in Japan (Super Mario Sunshine day!). These may seem like salvation for All Star Baseball 2003, and it sort of is, but it still won't hold all the needed data. *shrugs* LCD SCREEN ---------- Like Sony's PSone, Interact has released their LCD Screen for the Nintendo GameCube. Making the GameCube able to be played in your car, those boring long drives can now be filled with the endless fun of Super Monkey Ball. This is pricey, at $149 a pop, but Super Monkey Ball in your car is priceless. It comes with a car adapter. An official Nintendo screen will soon be available from Panasonic, news courtesy of the best GameCube-only site, ever, Planet GameCube (planetgamecube.com). The game to make good use of it is Phantasy Star Card Battle from Sega, the second GameCube online game. RF SWITCH/RF MODULATOR SET -------------------------- Do you have older TVs that don't have those red/yellow/white outputs? No problem! Use the ancient method of connecting your GCN to a cable output. You will need to use the N64 version's, as the SNES version's doesn't have the RF Modulator. 56K/V90 MODEM ------------- Online is becoming standard in console games. Nintendo's GameCube supports online gaming with the 56K modem (in Japan). Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II will be the first game to utilize online gaming. Nintendo has announced a price of $34.99 for the modem, and will release it along Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II October. Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II was released in Japan, and is available for import from www.ncsx.com. BROADBAND MODEM --------------- Broadband is the future and Nintendo doesn't want to be counted out. Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II will utilize online gaming. Nintendo has announced a price of $34.99 for the adaptor, and will release it along Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II in October. Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II was released in Japan, and the broadband modem was released recently in Japan, available for import at www.ncsx.com. ASCII KEYBOARD -------------- Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II will make optional use of a keyboard for easy management. Currently, NCSX.com lets you order the Japanese keyboard (Presumably with Romaji, Katakana and Hiragana). It is a keyboard with the GCN controller sticking out on each side. SEPARATE VIDEO CABLE -------------------- Want your GameCube graphics to look even better? Call up Nintendo and buy a S-Video cable, to make the graphics on your TV look clearer and more real, to show the potential of real graphics. Rogue Squadron 2 looks fabulous with this cable. Available only from Nintendo (www.Nintendo.com, or alternatively from phone. Call 1-800-255-3700 to order with a Credit Card. Applicable to the US and Canada only). STEREO AV CABLES ---------------- These are those red/yellow/white cables that connect to your TV. These come with you system, but if your TV doesn't support them, you'll have to use the RF. ======================================================================== 6. COMPATIBILITY ISSUES ======================================================================== The unmodded GameCube can only play games from its territory. Unfortunately, there are no symbols to detect where a game is from. Unlike the PlayStation 2, Dreamcast and XBOX, there is no "NTSC" symbol on any GameCube game. To decipher a Japanese game, you can only look at the box. If it is a small case, with a cardboard sleeve which covers the actual case, it is a Japanese game. Alternatively, on the back of the box, there should be a noticeable "JAPAN ONLY" print. To decipher an American game, look at the case. If it is a DVD-sized case, you have an American game. Alternatively, you can look on the back of almost all American boxes and find the symbol "FOR SALE, RENTAL, AND USE ONLY IN USA, CANADA, MEXICO AND LATIN AMERICA." According to Olly Dean, European games are deciphered if the case is made from Amaray (thought you have to open them up). Alternatively, look for a "PAL" symbol on GameCube PAL territory boxes. ======================================================================== 1. RUMORS ======================================================================== *Grand Theft Auto 3 is coming out for GameCube ---------------------------------------------- Rockstar Games denied it, so it isn't coming to GameCube. *Mother 3/Earthbound 64 is coming to GameCube! ---------------------------------------------- No. No official announcement has been made, though rumors are circulating whether Earthbound 63/Mother 3 will be coming out. *Enix is developing for GameCube -------------------------------- Yes, they announced GameCube support. A recent UNCONFIRMED (hence the rumor mill status) news bit at The Magic Box says that Enix will release 3 GCN games in the 2003 fiscal year (April 2003-March 2004). There are also rumors flying around that Enix will release Dragon Quest VIII for the GameCube. Stay tuned for rumors. *"Celda" is being turned back to Zelda -------------------------------------- No, Miyamoto is keeping Zelda the way it is. It plays a lot like Ocarina of Time, just with a different graphics style. I'll have to call you a moron if you're gonna hate a game because of that. *A Hard Drive is coming to GameCube ----------------------------------- From what I have heard, IBM is making a hard disk for GameCube, but haven't said much about it (if anything). *GameCube to go the way of the Dreamcast? ----------------------------------------- No. Nintendo makes money from GameCube and GBA. Sega didn't make money from Dreamcast, unfortunately. *Resident Evil NOT exclusive to GCN ----------------------------------- By all means, it still is. BioHazard Online (Resident Evil Online) doesn't link to the RE story, and Gun Survivor 4: BioHazard 0 is a twisst of the RE0 storyline. Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 are crucial to the storyline, and thus are GameCube exclusive. *Capcom's racer Auto Modellista is coming to GameCube ----------------------------------------------------- GameCube Europe and well-known importer NCSX reconfirmed it, so a port is probably coming. This CAN be a GCN online game. *Capcom's secret fighter ------------------------ Capcom versus SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001: EO, a Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 port, is coming to GameCube. Yes, this is confirmed. *Sonic Adventure 3 is coming to GameCube! ----------------------------------------- No, only a port of the Dreamcast original Sonic Adventure is coming to GameCube. But GameCube is also getting Sonic Mega Collection, a compilation of Genesis Sonic games. *A Big Announcement will take place in December ----------------------------------------------- This can happen, but then again it may not. Stay tuned in December for the announcement. MODDING YOU GAMECUBE ======================================================================== There are a few ways of getting your GameCube to play Japanese games, or Vice versa. Modding ------- IGN.com has a specific FAQ for rewiring GameCube to play games opposite your country code, but universally. NCSX.com does it for you for about $38. http://cube.ign.com/news/39712.html is a FAQ that can get you there, if you sign up for IGN service. ***I highly recommend that you have NCSX.com mod your GameCube. They safely modded my GameCube, and both the JPN and USA modes work like a charm, and it is only $38. Email them for details, but here are screens off my modded GameCube. www.geocities.com/ripoffer01/cvxfreak.html. Big thanks to ripoffer01 for posting that site! Future methods -------------- Freeloader ---------- Yes, a Boot Disc is coming out for GameCube, which enable the use of import games from PAL territories, as well as Australasian territories. However, it has yet to be released, and it keeps getting delayed. GameShark --------- A GameShark will likely use one of the 3 serial ports underneath the GameCube. That peripheral can also, probably in the future, easily disable the country code for the Nintendo GameCube. ======================================================================== 1. "Q" ======================================================================== GameCube not having a DVD player discouraging you from a purchase? Well, not problem- if you live in Japan that is. GameSpot reported that Q, the DVD-GameCube hybrid from Panasonic will be a Japan only product. Too bad. But at least, unlike the PlayStation 2 and XBOX, it comes with a remote for easy handling. The Japanese Q will be a GameCube that plays DVD movies. It will not support progressive scan. It was released in Japan on December 14, 2002. The screen shots of "Q" show a silvery-console, slightly bigger than the non-DVD GameCubes. This time, seems to use a loading tray instead of a top-loader. It retains 4 controller ports, as usual, and 2 memory card ports. The 3 serial and hi-speed ports are still at the bottom of the console, so your "Q" will be able to do the things the original GameCube can do. According to Matsushita, it doesn't support progressive scan, so you can expect an ordinary DVD player mixed into your GameCube. Its LCD Screen is really a little reminder of which mode you are playing, whether it be "GameCube Mode" or "DVD Mode." Want to buy a Q? NCSX.com has them in, and they are modded! As weird as it sounds, people must use the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the Q's tray loader instead of using the remote. ****************************** According to several sources, Panasonic will release a new version of the Q with TV recording capabilities. It'll be released in Spring 2003. ======================================================================== 2. WAVEBIRD WOES ======================================================================== So is the Wave Bird wireless controller giving you trouble? Here are several tips that will help you overcome the problem. These aren't guaranteed but they'll more than likely work. Sometimes your Wave Bird can just be broken or the battery is on the wrong way. IS THE WAVE BIRD NOT GETTING A SIGNAL? -Check to see if the Radio Channels are matching. You can be on any Radio Channel as long as they match. If they don't match, your receiver won't be able to read the controller's actions. -Check to see if the Wave Bird is on. You need to turn it on. -Check to see if the batteries are dead. If you've used the Wave Bird a lot, that might be the case. Nintendo has claimed 100 hour battery life for the Wave Bird, but sometimes exceptions are made. -If you are playing with other people, make sure EVERYONE is on their respective signal, and they are all different. Otherwise, there will be an interference with the signal. IS THE WAVE BIRD NOT PLAYING WITHIN ITS CLAIMED DISTANCE? -As the battery life shortens, so does the reach of Wave Bird. If the batteries are about to run out, get closer to the TV. -Sometimes other radio signals might interfere. I haven't heard anything about this, but it is a possible solution. IS THE WAVE BIRD NOT RUMBLING? -There's nothing wrong. The Wave Bird doesn't rumble. ARE BUTTONS NOT WORKING? -You might have jammed the Wave Bird's buttons if that is the case. If that happens, it definitely isn't the signal. WHAT'S THE BEST MULTIPLAYER SIGNAL? -Sometimes if you're playing with 4 Wave Birds, sometimes the controls won't respond as much. it's suggested that played go with signals 1, 4, 7, and 10 so each player's radio channels are spread apart for the best maximum separate signals. If you play in channels 1, 2, 3 and 4, there might be a bit of slowdown in responsiveness. ======================================================================== 3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ======================================================================== When was the GameCube released? ------------------------------- ::It was released in Japan on September 14, 2001 and in America on November 18, 2001. It was released in Europe on May 3, 2002 and May 17, 2002 in Australia. When is the European launch? ---------------------------- ::It happened on May 3, 2002. Who is the GameCube made by? ---------------------------- ::Nintendo made it, but with help from ATI, IBM and Matsushita (Panasonic). IBM designed the CPU, Panasonic provided the discs, and ATI made/provided (or close) the graphics processor. How many bits is GameCube? -------------------------- ::64-bit. It is still technologically more powerful than the PlayStation 2, which runs at 128 bits, but less powerful than XBOX, which is 32- bits. BITS DON'T COUNT. EVER. (at least if you aren't a tech head; to them, it counts, but for the sake of it all, it doesn't count). Will Japanese peripherals work with my American console, or vice-versa? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ::Yes. The only exception is the Memory Card 59. You cannot save Japanese game data to a card with American game data. You must save them completely on Japanese data-only cards. (EX: If you have a Memory Card with USA Super Smash Bros. Melee, then you cannot save the JPN BioHazard onto it). When will "Q" be released in Japan? ----------------------------------- ::It was released on December 14, 2001, in Japan. Does it play DVD movies? ------------------------ ::Normal GameCubes don't play DVD movies. The Japan-exclusive "Q" plays DVD movies. What is the Japanese retail for "Q"? ------------------------------------ ::$325 approx. Why isn't "Q" coming to America? -------------------------------- ::Apparently it's too expensive to bring here. Should I get a Japanese or American GameCube? --------------------------------------------- ::If I were you, buy a modded one that can play multi-region games from NCSX.com, or grab any Japanese or USA GameCube and wait for the Action Replay Disc. Does it play Nintendo 64, Super Famicom (SNES) or Famicom (NES) games? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ::Nope. Backwards compatibility is impossible due to the different mediums (Mini-DVD vs. Cartridge). But N64 ports are indeed possible, with high profile games like Animal Crossing and Doshin the Giant. If you're wondering about why those games look graphically inferior, it's because they're N64 ports (released in Japan only for N64 and 64DD, respectively). How much do GameCube games retail for? -------------------------------------- ::$49.99 is Nintendo's suggested price, though the margin is around $3. Older games usually retail for as low as $19.99. Check your local retailer for pricing. Should I get a GameCube or XBOX? -------------------------------- ::I will not answer that question. Its not my place or time. Email me for my personal response. Does GameCube play Japanese games on an American console and vice-versa? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ::Nope. But refer to the next question to get some advice. How do I mod a GameCube? ------------------------ ::Sign up for IGN.com's free service and you can access this modding FAQ from them. http://cube.ign.com/news/39712.html Note: If you sign up for their service (not the Insider service), you can access this page. Preferably, have NCSX.com do it for you. When does Mario Sunshine, Zelda and BioHazard Zero come out? ------------------------------------------------------------ ::Super Mario Sunshine is due in Japan on July 19, 2002 and on August 26, 2002 in America. The Legend of Zelda is due out in December 2002 in Japan, and February 2003 in America. Resident Evil Zero (BioHazard Zero) is due out August 29 in Japan, and in November in America. Is Resident Evil/BioHazard exclusive to the GameCube? ----------------------------------------------------- ::Sorry, PS2 and XBOX fans, but Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4 are ONLY coming to the GameCube. The Resident Evil Remake has already been released in Japan and America, with a European date on September 13, 2002 (which is a Friday :/). Resident Evil Zero is next, followed by Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and finally, Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil Online is a PS2- exclusive this far. Is Squaresoft making any Final Fantasy games for GameCube? ---------------------------------------------------------- ::Square only announced a Final Fantasy game for GBA [Final Fantasy Tactics, a PSone (!!!) port]. Former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchhi (whom we all know and love!) announced a Final Fantasy game for the GameCube but nothing really solid has come up ever since. What about Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest in Japan)? -------------------------------------------------- ::I really don't know. Enix developed Dragon Warrior I & II, Dragon Warrior III, Dragon Warrior Monsters, and Dragon Warrior Monsters II for GameBoy Color (and most likely the GBA), and perhaps they can see an advantage with the GBA-GC Link Cable with a GBA Dragon Warrior (very likely for a GBA Dragon Warrior). They also have Dragon Warrior on the PS one. I'm placing all my bets that Dragon Warrior IV: Remake, Dragon Warrior V, Dragon Warrior VI and possibly Dragon Warrior VII can reach the GBA at some point it its lifetime. I really cannot tell right now. Microsoft is also doing talks with Enix, so XBOX can get it (although I doubt that; the XBOX isn't selling well in Japan). Out of all 3 consoles, either GCN or PlayStation 2 can get it, but I'm placing my money on PS2 for the moment. Just so you know... Dragon Warrior always Surpasses the 1 Million mark, in Japan. It is probably the most wanted RPG in Japan, even more so than Final Fantasy, Earthbound/Mother and Fire Emblem. Is Grand Theft Auto 3 coming out for GameCube? ---------------------------------------------- ::According to R* (Rockstar), only a PC and XBOX port are coming. No GameCube version, but there is one for GameBoy Advance coming out in the summer. What about Grand Theft Auto: Vice City? --------------------------------------- ::As far as I'm concerned, that is a PS2-only game, since Sony secured rights to the exclusivity of the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and following titles. Is there ANY Rockstar support for GameCube? ------------------------------------------- ::Smugglers' Run: Warzones for GameCube is a Rockstar game, but only a port from the PlayStation 2's Smuggler's Run 2. Is Soul Calibur 2 on GameCube? The first one rocked! ---------------------------------------------------- ::Yup. Soul Calibur 2's a fighting game which will be available on the GameCube, as well as PlayStation 2 and XBOX. The GameCube version, however, will be connected to the GameBoy Advance version of Soul Calibur 2, a feature that the XBOX and PlayStation 2 version won't have (unless Namco makes a WonderSwan Color/Crystal version and links it to the PS2, but that's only in Japan and it's unlikely anyhow). And Link from the Zelda series will be in Soul Calibur 2 (personally, Marth from Fire Emblem would have been better, but that's me). Since Link is a Nintendo character, he'll only be in the GCN version. When will the GameBoy Advance connect to the GameCube? ------------------------------------------------------ ::Sonic Adventure 2: Battle connects with GameBoy Advance game Sonic Advance to trade Chao. It is out in Japan and America now, and future games should use. Animal Crossing (Doubutsu No Mori + in Japan) also uses it to activate a separate island, as with that new Kirby game from Space World 2001. Does GameCube play CD ROMS? --------------------------- ::The regular unit doesn't because regular CD ROMS don't fit. Q does. Does GameCube play VCD? ----------------------- ::According to my good friend, Prince Shondronai, it doesn't. The JPN Q does, though (or so I hear). Is Sega supporting Nintendo GameCube? ------------------------------------- ::They sure are. Launch title Super Monkey Ball was from Sega, as is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Crazy Taxi and Phantasy Star Online Episode I and II. Home Run King, Sega Soccer Slam and NBA 2K2, NBA 2K3, Super Monkey Ball 2, Sonic Adventure and Sonic Mega Collection are Sega GameCube titles. Is Q worth it? -------------- ::Only if you don't have, and want, a DVD Region 2 Player. Otherwise, stick to the Normal GC. Which is selling more, GameCube or XBOX? ---------------------------------------- ::GameCube. After XBOX's dismal launch in Japan (sold 123,000 compared to GameCube's 300,000; SOURCE: Bloomberg), its safe to say that the GameCube definitely is outselling XBOX, and it will probably be like that for awhile. Is Konami supporting GameCube? ------------------------------ ::Yeah, a little bit. They've got International SuperStar Soccer, and a bunch of other sports games in the ESPN lineup. They've also got Groove Adventure Rave in Japan, a kind of Power Stone clone, if you will. Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (MGS2: Substance), and Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, are probably not coming to GameCube and the same goes for Dance Dance Revolution and Silent Hill 3. What are Capcom exclusives? --------------------------- ::Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 4 and CAS Ra are current exclusives. Cas RA is a secret, enigmatic game being developed by Shinji Mikami, lead developer of BioHazard/Resident Evil. They have got 3 secret exclusive GameCube games right now, which is more support than anything N64 got (Mega Man 64, Resident Evil 2 and a Disney game). If you are a Capcom person, GameCube and PS2 are probably your consoles. Since Capcom is developing a Fighting Game stick for the GameCube, they are releasing Capcom versus SNK 2: EO, but that's only a port (a VERY good game though). And they've also got Auto Modellista planned, which is a racing game meant to go online or offline, but again, that will be an improved PS2 port. So which is coming? Sonic Adventure 1 or 3? ------------------------------------------- ::Only Sonic Adventure 1 is coming to GameCube, not Sonic Adventure 3. There's also Sonic Mega Collection. According to the GameFAQS Message Boards, these will be the games included in it: - Sonic The Hedgehog (Genesis - 1991) - Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Genesis - 1992) - Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (Genesis - 1994) - Sonic & Knuckles (Genesis 1994) - Sonic Spinball - Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine Please e-mail questions to me at ReBioHazard6587X@hotmail.com. Rareware was purchased by Microsoft. ------------------------------------ ::Yes, Rare has officially moved Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo: Elements of Power to the XBOX. So you'll need an XBOX to play those games. ======================================================================== 8. CONCLUSION ======================================================================== The FAQ is finished. The Nintendo GameCube, IMHO, is the best console on the market, with the best price, games and graphics (Star Wars: RL: RS2, RE). The games are fun, and Nintendo, so far, has mastered next generation gaming! I have several source to thank in the end, or this FAQ wouldn't be possible!
